Melissa is passionate about crafting visual stories. Her design practice focuses on shaping (typo)graphic narratives and forms.
In summer 2015, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten, Den Haag (KABK) in the Netherlands after many Chocomels and boterhammen.
Born in 1984 and raised amidst a backdrop of Letrasets and Prismacolor markers, her favourite pastimes include browsing supermarkets and stationery / bookshops. Originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, she is now (temporarily) based in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Some random facts:
1. In 1998, at the age of 14, Melissa read an entire 1000-page book on HTML and had her first encounters with the internet, Adobe Photoshop, and Raygun magazine.
2. Moved to the Netherlands to immerse herself in the land of Albert Heijn winkels in 2013. Then proceeded to fall off her bicycle during one stormy day.
3. Wrote approximately 7,500 words on Text as Image.
4. Semi-expert on how to juggle multiple things whilst riding a bicycle.
5. Currently maintaining her sourdough starter number six.

Unity Sans was created to support Ukraine in rebuilding its economy and fostering new businesses. Designed specifically for the “We Build Ukraine” project, this typeface serves as a symbolic contribution to the nation’s reconstruction efforts.

Cycling With
How do we present and fit all the topics of the summit celebrating women from all walks of life? Initially I illustrated the literal nouns with pictograms but it didn’t feel right. It wasn’t connecting with the story of the summit. I was stuck, and went back to the drawing board. How do I approach this from a fun angle?
Well, I love illustrating objects. The target audience are cyclists. Illustrating the essentials cyclist bring on them on the road suddenly made a lot of sense. CW added to the idea: How about including items related to each speakers?
